Public Service

Recent decades have seen explosive growth in the size of government at all levels including state, county and municipal and with it, the growth of public payrolls. Yet civil servants, whether they be health care workers or corrections officers, face unique workplace challenges. Governments frequently impose policies and procedures not usually seen in the private sector, while issues such as compensation and work rules are frequently subject to politics instead of the negotiating table.

The UMWA is committed to providing our public service members with the highest degree of representation while at the same time lobbying aggressively for statutory and regulatory changes that enhance the ability of hard-working public employees to receive the dignity, respect and fair treatment that they deserve.

We represent public safety officers, corrections officers, office workers, waste management employees, maintenance workers, educational employees and more in dozens of communities throughout the United States.
