[TRIANGLE, VA.] United Mine Workers of America International President Cecil E. Roberts issued the following statement today:

“The hearts and prayers of all of the members of the United Mine Workers of America are with the families of the firefighters who lost their lives battling the Arizona wildfire yesterday.

“This has been described as the worst disaster affecting firefighters since September 11, 2001. And just as during 9-11, we are somber witnesses to the heroic actions of first responders who selflessly put themselves in harm's way to protect ordinary citizens.

“While we as a nation collectively mourn this loss, we should draw courage and inspiration from the legacy of these remarkable public servants.”
